Entteri receives Dentistry Innovation Award for AI solution
The Dentistry Innovation Award, granted by the Finnish Fair Foundation, recognises significant advancements in dentistry. This year, the newly established award was granted to an AI (Artificial Intelligence) solution developed by Finnish dental software provider Entteri Professional Software Oy in collaboration with Dentail AB. The award was presented in a ceremony held in connection with The Finnish Dental Convention 2025.
The newly established Dentistry Innovation Award (“Innovaatiopalkinto”), valued at €10,000, celebrates significant advancements in the field of dentistry, aiming to promote dental research and introduction of new technologies. The award also raises awareness of the importance of oral health and its impact on overall wellbeing.
Granted for the very first time at this year’s Finnish Dental Convention, the award was presented to Entteri Professional Software Oy, a Finnish information systems provider and part of Planmeca Group. The award was presented for Entteri’s AI-powered solution which automatically analyses dental bitewing images for any signs of tooth decay and displays the potential caries findings directly in AssisDent practice management software, which Entteri offers to private and public oral healthcare providers.
The AI solution was developed by Entteri in collaboration with Dentail AB, a Swedish company specialising in AI-powered tools for analysing dental X-rays. Fully integrated into the AssisDent software, the AI feature detects possible caries findings on intraoral images within a few seconds of exposure. The results are displayed directly in the practice management software alongside other patient information with no need for separate commands or switching between different software platforms or applications. It remains the dentist’s responsibility to validate the findings for actual diagnosis and record the findings in the patient records. In this manner, the solution accelerates the processing of X-ray images and streamlines the process of recording findings during dental check-ups.
The AI-powered analysis of bitewing images is available to AssisDent users as an optional, complimentary feature through Romexis® Image Cloud, a cloud hosting service provided to Planmeca Romexis® users for storing their patient images and Romexis database online. In Finland, approximately 50% of dental clinics in the private sector have already chosen this method to host their Romexis databases and images in the cloud. Romexis Image Cloud is available to users globally, with a steadily growing international user base. The automatic X‑ray analysis of AssisDent runs within the same secure cloud environment that hosts the patient images of Romexis Image Cloud. The service complies with strict regional data privacy requirements across the EU, UK, and Norway, ensuring that patient data remains within the region and is not transferred to third-party services.
“When developing the AI solution, the most critical task was to identify which types of tools would genuinely support healthcare professionals during clinical encounters, and which might even disrupt their workflow,” says Topi Koskinen, Business Director at Entteri. “It was important to us that the solution would not interfere with the actual clinical work, but rather help reduce the time spent on computer. Our AI solution aims to optimise the dentists’ work while supporting patient communication. Building on this principle, we continue to develop new solutions for the users of AssisDent software, with the goal of making the dentists’ work easier.”
The Dentistry Innovation Award ceremony was held at the Finnish Dental Convention on Thursday, 6 November 2025. The Finnish Dental Convention is Finland’s largest dental education event and exhibition with a scientific programme curated by the Finnish Dental Society Apollonia. The €10,000 recognition for the Innovation Award is granted annually by the Finnish Fair Foundation.
